Saturn In Aquarius, And The Four Horsemen Of The Infodemic (Part One)

“We’re not just fighting an epidemic; we’re fighting an infodemic”
-World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus

Saturn in Aquarius sounds perfect for things like self quarantine and social distancing, doesn’t it? Unfortunately we are experiencing the spread of not one, but two different things that could potentially get a lot of people killed.

The first one is, of course, the COVID-19 coronavirus itself. The other one (also entirely appropriate for Saturn in Aquarius) is the spread of dangerous disinformation on the internet.

This is the first of a four-part series where I will be listing the four types of this information going around, in ascending order of dangerousness.

THE DISINFO: An overemphasis on healthy living, clean eating, and natural medicine.

DESCRIPTION: Your single best defense against COVID-19 is some combination of nutrition and home remedy. Like, for example, drinking hot water with lemon in it will cure or prevent COVID-19, because it will “alkalize your immune system.”

WHY IS IT SO BAD? “Come on, Matthew, quit being such a grumpy old man!” many of you are probably thinking right now. But hear me out. I’m sure that there is absolutely nothing wrong with drinking hot water with lemon in it, or putting extra cinnamon on your granola, or whatever.

There are two problems with relying on this sort of thing. First of all: so many health claims about COVID-19 appear to be coming from anonymous sources who are being quoted on websites of dubious scientific value. Find yourself a real doctor, and ask him or her what “alkalize the immune system actually means.” The answer he or she will likely give you will be something along the lines of “it means you should stop trying to earn your MD by re-posting crap you saw on someone’s YouTube channel.”

Secondly, there is no combination of water or lemons or steam or crystals that will do a better job of protecting you from COVID-19 than simply following basic hygiene rules, staying away from people as much as possible, and following rational, common sense advice about things like washing your hands. So yes… eat healthy foods and and pray and so on. But also, never forget: the coronavirus doesn’t care that you don’t trust “Western medicine.”

NEXT TIME: Something even more harmful (that will hopefully make me sound slightly less petty)
