The Weekly Sky: Astrology For December 31, 2018 – January 6, 2019

Happy New Year everyone! There are two big astrological aspects putting a spin on the week. Both could sound a little scary, if you are inclined to being scared by these things. Don’t be. Relax, pal. You’ll be fine.

On New Year’s Day, Mars enters the Sign it rules, Aries. On the one hand, yes that does mean that for about the next month-and-a-half blow-ups could be bigger and arguments could get louder. overall though, it’s a good time to harness that energy to get some results with the things you want to change in your life. Recommended uses for this placement include exercise — so do more of that and less of your usual arguing with strangers on the Internet over things neither of you will ever agree about anyway. That’s Mars energy too.

On Friday, there is a partial Solar Eclipse in Capricorn. Some astrology fans get all scared when it comes to Eclipses, and for the most part they probably shouldn’t. Yes, Eclipses can help contribute to surprise turns of events, but they don’t spell disaster (or a lottery win) unless there are other transits supporting that outcome.

Please note, however, that this Eclipse is happening close to the conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn. Depending on the individual details of your birth chart, Pluto may or may not have been messing with you for the last two or three years now. If it has, this Eclipse could bring things to a head in a surprising  manner, as Eclipses often do. Just keep in mind that if you’re old enough to be reading this, you’ve lived through plenty of Solar Eclipses — and hey, you’re still alive! Either way, it will be a good day to sit down and set up your intentions for the next month, especially if they have anything to do with finances, organization, or establishing the foundations for something new.
