Astrology Of 2020: Lights In The Darkness
Traditionally, New Year’s is seen as a time of hope. People feel like they are getting a fresh start, even though all we’re looking at is essentially an arbitrary mark on a calendar. For many of us though, this New Year’s seems a little different. That’s probably because of the impending weight of the Saturn Pluto conjunction, which as of midnight will only be twelve days away.
It is to you who are feeling underwhelmed by the promise of 2020, or were thinking of it as more portent than promise, that I address this.

It has always struck me that astrology and astrologers are somehow a little more pessimistic than the average New Age-type practitioners. If the tarot readers and the clairvoyants and the Fung Shui practitioners are all like the cool kids at the pep rally, the astrologers are a little more like the goth kids out back smoking and talking about what posers everyone else is. I think that may be because if you go see a tarot reader about your bad love life and the spread ends with something like the Page of Cups, you may be told something like “oh look there’s a hopeful message coming!”
It’s the astrologer who’s more likely to point out that Saturn is going to be square your Venus for the next two years, and that it may be time to invest in a house pet.
Despite that, I personally tend to be an optimist, and it usually turns out that I’m right to be so. Of course there are bad times in everyone’s life sometimes, but we tend to get through them — no matter how heavy they seem at the time.
If you are experiencing doubts or insecurities about your life in the next year, fear not. I’m feeling the pressure too. But I think there’s hope for us. Real hope.
I wanted to find a clever quote from someone smarter and more famous then me to cap this entry off. But instead I am drawn to the realm of DC comics. Specifically the oath of the Blue Lantern Corps. I think these words apply here, and are is true and real as anything Shakespeare could have ever said.
In fearful day, in raging night
With strong hearts full, our souls ignite.
When all seems lost in the War of Light,
Look to the Stars, for Hope burns bright!
Happy New Year, everyone. Maybe you aren’t falling off a cliff after all — maybe this is your first flying lesson.
