Astrology: Tom Cruise Has A Meltdown

Last week, a behind the scenes audio recording leaked out, which featured Tom Cruise going ape on a couple of crew members during the filming of Mission Impossible 7. Normally I would have written about this subject sooner, but there are a couple of things about this incident that has bothered me a little.

First of all, there is the problem that we do not know what time Tom Cruise was born at. We know he was born June 3, 1962 in Syracuse, New York. There is a birth chart in common circulation that has him as having been born at 3:06pm. But there is no confirmed source for that time of birth, so it has to be considered suspect.

Second, a lot of the transits that I would have expected to see just aren’t here. Normally when someone loses their temper. It’s because of a transit to their Mars or a transit from transiting Mars. That’s not particularly happening in this case. Sure, transiting Uranus is within week conjunction range of his natal Mars, but that doesn’t explain much in and of itself. And yes, Mars has been in Aries for far too long and at some point or another, it would have squared Tom’s Venus. As a matter of fact, when I look at Tom Cruise’s transits they are, for the most part, pretty good. And not exactly consistent with someone losing it over a minor workplace infraction.

I admit that I’m not exactly neutral about Tom Cruise. He’s been in some great movies, including (arguably) my favorite one. But I know there are things about his personal life that are pretty questionable. His long standing involvement with Scientology has been a source of some suspicion and rumor as well. But I try my best to see past these things whenever I’m writing about a famous person.

Also, it’s too easy to try and turn astrology into some kind of a mind-reading act. If you want to start with the basic assumption that someone is inherently wonderful or terrible, you’re going to be able to see evidence of it in their birth chart. But as I sometimes have to insist to clients: the planets in your birth chart do not demand that you think or feel a certain thing. That’s up to you.

However, just recently, actress Leah Remini, best known for her recent work exposing some of the problems with Scientology, came out and said that this Tom Cruise angry rant was a publicity stunt. According to Leah? Tom wasn’t really concerned about the health and well being of the crew on his movie. He wasn’t really concerned with saving people’s jobs. According to Leah. Tom Cruise is simply trying to build some public image and get some free publicity.

“Tom does not care about the families of his crew; this is all for publicity. Tom does not believe in family values,” Remini said on Twitter. “Hearing a rich actor with enormous power address his crew in this way is a sign of weakness and a deeply troubled person.”

And here I find myself in total agreement with Leah’s assessment. Can I find the astrology to back that up, though? Sure, if I try hard enough. But it’s not an astrologer’s job to use astrology to justify his or her preconceptions — and those who do usually end up making fools of themselves when they start making public pronouncements like “Person I Hate is Terrible, and Here’s The Proof.”

Besides — humans can be deceptive. For example? Here you thought you were about to read an article about Tom Cruise and the transits he’s having. But — surprise! — I made it all about me… just like all the “Person I Hate is Terrible, and Here’s The Proof” astrology commentators you may see out there tend to do.

Now, having said that: I will do my level best to be as objective as possible with you, Dear Reader, as much as I can. Drop by next time when I have a closer look at Astrology and Objectivity.

I still don’t trust Tom Cruise though. Sorry.
