Virgo, (Greek: Παρθένος [Parthénos]) is the sixth astrological sign of the zodiac and is represented by the maiden or virgin. People born between August 23 and September 22 are said to have this zodiac sign. Virgo is one of the three earth signs, along with Taurus and Capricorn. Earth signs are said to have a practical and grounded nature, and Virgo is no exception. People born under this sign are known for their attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills. History
The origins of Virgo can be traced back to ancient Babylon, where the constellation was associated with the goddess Shala, who was depicted holding an ear of grain. In Greek mythology, Virgo was linked to the goddess of the harvest, Demeter, who was often depicted with a bundle of wheat.
Astronomical Properties
Virgo is a constellation that is visible in both the northern and southern hemispheres. It is located between the constellations Leo and Libra and is easily recognizable by the bright star Spica, which represents the wheat held by the maiden.
Spica is the brightest star in Virgo and is one of the brightest stars in the night sky. It is a blue-white star that is located about 260 light-years away from Earth. Spica is actually a binary star system, with two stars orbiting around each other.
Virgo is also home to several deep-sky objects, including the Virgo Cluster of galaxies. The Virgo Cluster is a group of over 1,000 galaxies that are located about 60 million light-years away from Earth. The Virgo Cluster is one of the closest galaxy clusters to our own Milky Way galaxy and is an excellent target for amateur astronomers with a telescope.
