Astrology, Brexit, And Bad Punctuation

I normally don’t write about astrology and politics, for two very good reasons. First, I’ll admit that I’m nowhere near objective about politics. I like to keep my opinions and my astrology on separate shelves. Secondly, if you like astrology and politics together, there are plenty of places to find that sort of thing. You may have seen exchanges like this before:

Astrologer 1: “Politician X has a Moon-Jupiter aspect in his birth chart, so he cares deeply about the people of his nation.”
Astrologer 2: “You know who else had a Moon-Jupiter aspect? HITLER!”

Ugh. If you can’t respect differing political opinions, could you please at least keep astrology out of it?

Anyway, Britain officially leaves the European Union on January 31 at 11 PM local time. This will be followed by an eleven-month period of negotiations in which Britain and the EU attempt to work out some specific details that (to date) have been confusing, contentious, and aggravating.

On January 31 at 11 PM local time in Britain, the Moon will be Void of Course in the last degree of Aries, after having come off the square to Pluto and Saturn, and approaching the conjunction to Uranus in Taurus. In other words; this next phase of Brexit is very likely to be confusing, contentious, and aggravating. But, you needed an astrologer to tell you that?

I think we should instead focus on something we can all agree on. You see, January 31st is also the day a new 50p coin is being released to commemorate the occasion. One side of the coin is inscribed with the phrase:

“Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations”

And thus, you now understand why I can’t keep silent on this matter any more. If you haven’t figured it out… it’s missing the Oxford Comma.

This fills me with near-unbearable rage.

Imagine you’re reading the dedication to a book where the author says something like “this book is dedicated with love to my parents, my wife, and my dog Fluffy.” Nice and cute, no problem.

Now try this: “this book is dedicated with love to my parents, my wife and my dog Fluffy.” Wait… what? A dog got your Mom pregnant and then you married her? Dear God!

Anyway, I think we should focus more on the things that brings us together rather than separate us. And I think we can all agree the whatever your opinion is of Brexit… this coin has got to go.

Again, sorry. I didn’t mean to get all political on you.
