Venus Sextile Uranus: The Tale Of The Blue Rose
This week, Venus enters Pisces and forms the sextile to Uranus. This can bring some potentially new and unusual situation into your love life. In and of itself it’s no guarantee of success, but it can lead some interesting times. Let me tell you a story about “interesting times,” romantically.
Back in a previous existence (like about 25 years ago) I worked in an office. I had taken a liking to a certain co-worker — let’s call her Jana. We had a lot of interests in common and we got along and yes, I thought she was cute. I spent a lot of time commiserating with her about her ex-boyfriend Max. So, since she was clearly signalling that she was available, I asked her out one Friday evening, and she said yes.
I felt like I should buy her a rose, so I went to the florist shop on the ground floor of the building where we worked. They have the chart up that said that red roses symbolize love and romance, white roses were for purity, yellow roses… I forget. Does a yellow rose mean you’re from Texas or something?
Anyway, there were also blue roses there. I asked the old woman behind the counter what blue roses meant. Clearly I had spent too much time standing there not making up my mind because she answered with a terse “Blue rose mean nothing! You buy?” Yes, she had an accent.
So I figured what the heck, I’ll get Jana a blue rose.
I met her dinner and things went great…. but she seemed a bit… not into it, somehow? The problem was that by the end of the evening she had to confess to that she really liked me, but the she had decided that she couldn’t be anything other than the lesbian she was born to be. It turns out that all of her complaints about her old boyfriend Max were, in fact, about a Maxine.
Nonetheless we had a great time and continued to be friends for years afterwards.
The next day I had another occasion to stop in at the florist. The woman behind the counter asked me “How your date go?”
I told her that it went well, but that ultimately Jana wasn’t interested in men.
She thought about this for a second and then responded “You buy red rose next time!”

So: happy hunting this week. You may not find what you expected, but you might find something great anyway.
