Libra

Libra, (Greek: ΖΥΓΟΣ [Zygos]) is the seventh astrological sign of the zodiac and is represented by the scales. People born between September 23 and October 22 are said to have this zodiac sign. Libra is one of the three air signs, along with Gemini and Aquarius. Air signs are said to have a communicative and intellectual nature, and Libra is no exception. People born under this sign are known for their diplomacy, cooperation, and ability to see both sides of an issue. They tend to be attractive, or at the very least have symmetrical features, and are often indecisive.

History

The origins of Libra can be traced back to ancient Egypt, where the constellation was associated with the scales of justice and was linked to the goddess Maat. In Greek mythology, Libra was associated with the scales of justice held by the goddess Astraea, who was said to have left Earth and ascended to the heavens as a constellation.

Astronomical Properties

Libra is a constellation that is visible in both the northern and southern hemispheres. It is located between the constellations Virgo and Scorpio and is easily recognizable by the four stars that form a quadrilateral shape, which represent the scales.

The brightest star in Libra is called Zubenelgenubi, which is an Arabic name that means “southern claw.” It is a binary star system, with two stars orbiting around each other. The two stars are so close together that they cannot be separated by the naked eye.

Libra is also home to several deep-sky objects, including the globular cluster NGC 5897. Globular clusters are spherical collections of stars that are tightly bound by gravity. NGC 5897 is located about 40,000 light-years away from Earth and contains hundreds of thousands of stars.
